When summer arrives, you'll usually find me camping, hiking, paddle boarding, or spending as much time outdoors as possible.
I love living in the forest.
I love the smell of pine trees, mountain lakes, starry nights, and all the reasons people choose to call wildfire country home.
But if I'm being completely honest, fire season can make me anxious.
When my husband is away fighting fires, it's often just my daughter and me at home. We're the ones keeping an eye on evacuation maps. We're the ones watching smoke columns.
We're the ones wondering if it's time to leave.
Over the years, I've learned that anxiety loves uncertainty.
The more unknowns there are, the more my mind starts spinning.
So, I made a plan (actually, I made a lot of plans).
I figured out what we'd grab first.
What would go into our go-bags.
What documents we needed.
What would happen if we couldn't come home for a few days—or a few weeks.
As I worked through these different scenarios, I realized something:
Most families aren't unprepared because they don't care.
They're unprepared because life is busy.
The idea of getting organized for an emergency feels overwhelming, so it gets pushed to next weekend. Then next month. Then someday.
That's why I created Evac Ready.
Not to scare people.
Not to turn anyone into a prepper.
But to help families create a little more calm when things feel uncertain.
A clear plan when it's time to go. Because while we can't control wildfires, we can control how prepared we are.
